A List of top 10 wealthiest Lok Sabha MPs

MPs representing their constituency’s interest in the parliament often portray themselves as being from humble backgrounds who understand the plight of the common man, but ironically a significant number of these MPs are ultra high net individuals. This article provides a cumulation of top 10 richest incumbent MPs.

Lok Sabha, lower house of the Indian Parliament in addition to hosting serious politicians, also has a wide range of personalities including actors, intellectuals and industrialists. Contending MP’s are required to declare their assets in the public domain.

Here is a list of top 10 richest incumbent MPs from Lok Sabha

1. Nakul Nath

Political Party: INC

Constituency: Chhindwara (Madhya Pradesh)

Total Assets: 660 Crore+

Nakul Nath is the son of Kamal Nath, a prominent Indian politician who has served in various capacities, including as Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh. Nakul Nath entered politics and contested elections to become a Member of Parliament from the Chhindwara constituency in Madhya Pradesh in the 2019 Indian general election.

2. D.K. Suresh

 

Political Party: INC

Constituency: Bangalore Rural (Karnataka)

Total Assets: 338 Crore+

D.K. Suresh is the younger brother of D. K. Shivakumar, another noted Congress leader and the deputy chief minister of Karnataka.

3. R. R. Krishna Raju

 

Political Party: YSR Congress Party

Criminal Cases: 3

Constituency: Narsapuram ( Andhra Pradesh )

Total Assets: 325 Crore+

Raju quit his current party YSRCP previously in 2014 after not being able to secure the party’s nomination for 2014 Lok Sabha elections and joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). In 2018, he quit BJP and joined Telugu Desam Party (TDP). Subsequently, in March 2019, he joined YSRCP and contested in the 2019 elections from the Narsapuram Lok Sabha constituency.

Raju has stayed in limelight for being a ferocious critic of his party, he spoke out against the Andhra Pradesh government’s effort to convert Telugu medium government schools to English medium.

In July 2020, the YSRCP requested the Lok Sabha speaker to remove Raju from his position as an MP, citing his anti-party actions as the cause. Subsequently, in October 2020, Raju addressed Prime Minister Narendra Modi, accusing his party’s CM Jaganmohan Reddy of endorsing evangelism in Andhra Pradesh, a purported violation of the Indian constitution.

4. Galla Jayadev

Galla Jayadev hails from a prominent business family and is associated with the Amara Raja Group, a diversified business conglomerate which his father founded. His mother, Galla Aruna Kumari, previously served as a Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA) from the Chandragiri constituency and held a ministerial position in the Andhra Pradesh state government for an extended period. 

His grandfather, Paturi Rajagopala Naidu, was not only a freedom fighter but also a key ally of Acharya N G Ranga and a former member of the Indian Parliament. Galla recently announced a break from politics and is expected to not contest the 2024 general elections. 

5. Hema Malini 


Political Party: BJP

Often referred to as the “Dream Girl” of Indian cinema, Hema Malini is married to veteran actor Dharmendra Deol and has actively participated in parliamentary proceedings and is involved in various initiatives related to her constituency Mathura. 

After serving as an MP from 2003 to 2009 to the upper house – the Rajya Sabha, having been nominated by the then President of India, Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam, Malini contested on the Mathura seat in 2014 and won. 

6. Malook Nagar 


Political Party: Bahujan Samaj Party ( BSP )

Criminal Cases: 7

Constituency: Bijnor ( Uttar Pradesh )

Total Assets: 249 Crore+

After unsuccessfully contesting Meerut and Bijnor Lok Sabha constituencies of Uttar Pradesh in 2009 and 2014 respectively as a candidate of the Bahujan Samaj Party, Nagar was able to win the Bijnor Lok Sabha Seat in 2019. 

Nagar was on the receiving end of Income Tax raids in 2020 and also has multiple serious cases filed against him. 

7. Adala Prabhakara Reddy


Political Party: YSR Congress Party

Constituency: Nellore ( Andhra Pradesh )

Total Assets: 221 Crore+

Reddy was initially affiliated with the INC when he won the Allur legislative assembly seat in 1999 and later also from the Sarvepalli legislative assembly in 2004 and 2009. After his brief stint with Telugu Desam Party (TDP), Reddy joined the YSRCP in 2019 just before the general elections and won from Nellore. 

8. Sukhbir Singh Badal


Political Party: Shiromani Akali Dal

Constituency: Firozpur ( Punjab  )

Total Assets: 217 Crore+

Son of five time Chief Minister of Punjab Parkash Singh Badal, Sukhbir Singh Badal has previously served thrice as the Deputy Chief Minister of Punjab. He is currently the president of Shiromani Akali Dal and holds major influence over the Sikh organizations including Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee and the Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee.

Badal was Union Minister of State for Industry in Second Vajpayee Ministry during 1998 to 1999 and was also a member of Rajya Sabha during 2001 to 2004. His wife Harsimrat Kaur Badal is also an MP from Bathinda Lok Sabha Constituency and both of them collectively declared crore assets worth 217 crore in 2019. 

9. M. V. V. Satyanarayana

 

Political Party: YSR Congress Party 

Criminal Cases: 1

Constituency: Visakhapatnam

Total Assets: 202 Crore+

Founder of MVV Cinema film production company, M. V. V. Satyanarayana candidature from the Visakhapatnam seat was a messy affair. YSR Congress Party supporters  attacked their own party office when MVV Satyanarayana was declared as the candidate for Visakhapatnam East assembly constituency over YSRC leader Vamsi Krishna Srinivas Yadav. 

Vamsi Srinivas Yadav’s supporters attacked the party office and demanded a ticket for Vamsi, who has unsuccessfully contested twice from the Visakhapatnam East constituency in 2009 and 2014. 

10. Shatrughan Sinha 


Political Party:  All India Trinamool Congress (TMC) 

Criminal Cases: 2

Constituency: Asansol ( West Bengal )

Total Assets: 193 Crore+

Legendary actor Shatrughan Sinha entered politics on a BJP ticket and unsuccessfully contested the 1992 New Delhi by-election against another popular actor Rajesh Khanna. Sinha subsequently won from Patna Sahib Lok Sabha constituency in 2009 and 2014. However he switched alliances to INC when BJP fielded Ravi Shankar Prasad from Patna Sahib. 

Sinha then  joined All India Trinamool Congress to contest in the By-election for the Asansol Lok Sabha constituency in 2022 and won.
